  • What is your refund policy?
    There are no refunds.
  • How old do I need to be to start driver ed?
    At age 15, you can begin driver education. When you are 15 1/2 years old, you can apply for an instruction permit. The permit allows you to drive only with supervision from a parent, guardian, or driver over 25 years old with an unrestricted California license. After six months and 50 hours of supervised driving practice, you can take the road test and get a provisional license.
  • What safety equipment are your cars equipped with?
    All vehicles are equipped& with a passenger-side brake and rearview mirror for the driving instructor, we also have cameras that record the entire lesson.
  • When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?
    You may start behind-the-wheel lessons after you've received your instruction permit from the DMV.
  • How many lessons will I need? How long is each lesson?
    If you are under 18 years old, you will need to complete six hours of behind-the-wheel driving lessons. We offer 2-hour lessons and we recommend the student to spread the three lessons over six months. If you are over 18 years old, there are no requirements, so you can select the number lessons you want and how frequently you want to schedule each lesson.
  • Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?
    A1 Driving School will pick you up and drop you off within a 3-mile radius of city limits for free. If a you needs to be picked up or dropped off beyond three miles of the city limit, but within 10 miles, there is a $20 fee per trip or a $40 fee for a round trip.
  • Can I request a specific driving instructor?
    Yes, you can choose your instructor or select the first available opening.
  • Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?
    The choice is yours, you can select any instructor.
  • Will I have other students in the car with me?
    No, unless a student requests a parent or chaperone to ride along.
  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?
    If you need to cancel, reschedule or change your pickup location you can do so by logging into your account via our website. If less than 24 hours' notice is given for any reason, there is a $50 cancellation fee. If you are more than 15 minutes late for the lesson you will be charged the cancellation fee. Make sure to have your permit with you for all behind-the-wheel lessons. If your permit is lost, stolen, misplaced, or you forgot it that will be considered a cancellation, and you will be charged the cancellation fee.
  • Do you charge a cancellation fee?

  • Are your instructors licensed?
    Yes, all driving instructors are licensed through the occupational licensing unit division of the California DMV.
  • Can I use my own car?
    No, all behind-the-wheel lessons take place in our commercially insured vehicles equipped with special safety equipment for teaching new drivers.
  • Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?
    No, we have commercial car insurance that covers you while you are driving in our vehicles. If driving with your parents, you will need to be added to the insurance policy for your family's vehicles. If you get in an accident in our vehicle and you are at fault, there is a $500 deductible that must be met. If you are 18 years old or older you are responsible for the deductible. If you are under the age of 18, your parent/guardian will be subject to the deductible. Please check with your insurance as many policies may cover permit status drivers during driving instruction.
  • Do I need a temporary permit to schedule my lessons?
    Yes, you must take the knowledge test at the DMV to obtain your permit before taking behind-the-wheel lessons.
  • How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?
    To schedule your first driving lesson, purchase a service on our website. This will create an account for you in our system and allow you to schedule online. If you would like to purchase additional driving lessons, simply call us or send us an email and we add the additional lesson to your account. Then you can log in, pay, and schedule your next lesson.
  • What happens after I complete the online program?
    After you have successfully completed the online driver education course, you must take the knowledge test at the DMV to obtain your permit before taking behind-the-wheel lessons. You will need to bring a paper copy of your Certificate of Completion for the course to the DMV, we will print the certificate and notify a student when it is ready. The DMV will not accept an email or printed copy of the certificate.
  • How long does it take to complete the online program?
    The class is 30 hours long, and a student can log in and log out at any time.
